Poquoson High School graduate Kelly Halverson scored four points in Christopher Newport's 71-48 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday, Dec. 29, at O'Brien ARC Arena in St. Mary's City, Md., the Christopher Newport website reported.

The Christopher Newport University senior also recorded two rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Captains, who improved to 9-1 on the season.

Christopher Newport's next game is 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Greensboro College.

Halverson is a 2009 graduate of Poquoson High School, where she was a two-time first-team all-Bay Rivers District Selection playing for coach Jeff Gross. She was first-team all-district as a junior (2006-07) and senior (2007-08) while garnering second-team accolades as a sophomore (2005-06) and honorable mention status as a freshman (2004-05). Halverson was a 1,000-point scorer for her career. She was a member of the National Honor Society, FBLA and FCA. Born Feb. 12, 1991 the daughter of Matt and Cindy Halverson, she is majoring in communications. She is from Poquoson.
