Poquoson grad Halverson contributes to Christopher Newport victory
Poquoson High School graduate Kelly Halverson scored 14 points as Christopher Newport University won 91-74 over conference rival LaGrange College on Feb. 2 at LaGrange, Ga., the team's website reported.
The Christopher Newport University senior also recorded two rebounds and an assist for the Captains, who improved to 17-2 on the season and 10-2 in the South Athletic Conference.
Halverson is a 2009 graduate of Poquoson High School, where she was a two-time first-team all-Bay Rivers District Selection playing for coach Jeff Gross. She was first-team all-district as a junior (2006-07) and senior (2007-08) while garnering second-team accolades as a sophomore (2005-06) and honorable mention status as a freshman (2004-05). Halverson was a 1,000-point scorer for her career. She was a member of the National Honor Society, FBLA and FCA. Born Feb. 12, 1991 the daughter of Matt and Cindy Halverson, she is majoring in communications. She is from Poquoson.
